The radiation oncologist is a cancer specialist who participates in the evaluation of cancer patients and provides treatment using radiation-generating equipment and radioactive materials. As part of a team of physicians, radiation oncologists use a simulator for treatment planning, and linear accelearator, superficial x-rays, or brachytherapy (the temporary implantation of radioactive "seeds" for treatment of specific kinds of tumors) to treat cancer.
