Surgery, Trauma
Surgery, Trauma. In emergency situations, trauma surgeons, along with general, thoracic and vascular surgeons, perform surgeries necessary to stabilize and preserve the life of the patient. This requires rapid assessment of injuries based on information provided by emergency physicians and EMS professionals, and prioritization to restore and preserve the airway, breathing, and circulation. Trauma surgeons are usually general surgeons who provide follow-up surgeries as patients progress in recovery following an accident or intentionally inflicted injuries. Other surgical specialties such as neuro and orthopaedic surgeons may also be involved in the treatment of traumatic injuries.
